It was a great honour to judge this show and my thanks go to the committee for the invitation and to the exhibitors for their generous entry. Many thanks also to my hard working stewards.
Overall the bitches were more even in quality than the dogs. Ridges and crowns were generally very good and temperaments excellent. I was also impressed by the overall good fronts and good feet. However, I was disappointed by the number of exhibits that lacked fitness and hard condition or were overweight. A fat or unfit dog is shown at a disadvantage and suffers the penalties. “The ridgeback should have an athletic body to produce speed and provide stamina for an all day hunt.”

It was an honour to have been invited to judge this show, I had a lovely entry of quality dogs, pity there were not more cards, as some good exhibits went cardless.
1st Dickinson’s JESAMUDA KAKURU 9mths. Good head & expression, good ridge. Well balanced with good angles front and back. Moved & showed well.
2nd Calland & Sanders’ GUNTHWAITE ROUGH DIAMOND 6mths. A promising puppy, full of quality. Good bone, nice head, clean neck, deep chest, correct angulation. Very unsettled showing but moved well. Should do well when he gets his act together.
3rd Boyes’ BENICLOUJAM JACOB 6mths
1st Friend’s NYUKI SHARPESHOOTER 9mths. Balanced with excellent front giving him good reach. Strong hindquarters with correct angulation. Moved with drive. BPD
2nd Dickinson’s JESAMUDA KAKURU
1st Sales’ LIONPRIDE LEO 17mths. Well balanced throughout, strong clean neck, super front with elbows close in, good length of body. Excelled on the move. In hard condition & well handled.
2nd Thompson & Taylor’s KELSHANTI MUENDA DROGO WITH AFRICANER. Attractive head and expression, clean neck. Correct shoulder, lovely front & super feet. Not as balanced on the move as winner.
3rd Thomas’ RUBILTRA HWANGE
1st Tearne & Regan’s FAAHAC FUMBAA AAN N’GAI. Lovely head & expression, clean neck on well balanced body with good angles front & rear. Nice ridge. Fit & well muscled. Good, free mover. Showed well.
2nd Rhodes’ JANAK JAGO. Good front with elbows well tucked in. Nice head & expression. Promising but lacked maturity and condition of 1st. Moved well.

to 1st. Sound & well constructed. Excellent ridge, compact & well arched toes.
Moved well but not quite the drive of 1st. A close call.

1st Bailey’s MONDURI UN BEAU LION JW. A nicely balanced dog in hard condition. Good bone and topline. Strong hindquarters with a good turn of stifle. Well presented & handled.
2nd Hewson & Worthy’s REKAYLAHN PHOENIX. Another well balanced dog with lovely head & expression. A good outline and free mover. A little out of coat and not the hard condition of 1st.
3rd Ratcliff’s FLAMETREES KYPER OF GODOLPHIN
1st Webster’s NGOMA UZURI OF UMBARI JW. Well balanced, handsome dog in tip top condition. Lovely head on strong clean neck. Correct shoulder placement. Well muscled rear quarters. Moved freely & with drive to take the class but disappointed on the challenge. Res. BD
2nd Swales’ MWANI BAKARI JW. A good honest dog. Well balanced with good outline. Free flowing mover with long stride. Lacked enthusiasm today.
3rd Cavin & Perkins’ HESPA GANYMEDE OF MUNYORO
1st Mill’s CH. JHUMHA JARZA OF NZURI ShCM. 7.5yrs The youngest veteran but one of the fittest dogs. A nice type. Good head & expression. Strong neck, good shoulder placement and depth of chest. Strong hind quarters with fair turn of stifle. Well proportioned. Sound true movement. BD. BOS. BV.
2nd Mackfalls’ CH. HESPA HIGHLANDER OF AFRICANER. 9.5yrs in excellent condition and looking good for his age. Clean neck, deep chest, good length of body. Moved round the ring like a 2yr old.
3rd Grayson Wood’s ISIQA’S IJSA
1st Bates’ GUNTHWAITE DIAMOND LIL. Absolutely lovely. Very feminine. Super head & expression. Angles correct both fore & aft. Good length of body, excellent ridge. Just 6mths and so well balanced. Excelled on the move. Very well handled. BPB & BPIS
2nd Dickinson’s JESAMUDA SOUMAYA. Another nice puppy. Good overall shape & outline. Moved well.

1st Carlton & Smith’s UMHLANDLA MBATHA. Attractive red wheaten. 10mths. Lovely head & expression on clean neck. Well proportioned, good bone. Firm body. Moved well. Showing a lot of promise. Unsettled on the challenge.
2nd Grayson Wood’s ISIQA’S HAAVOC. Another nice youngster. Good breed type. Lovely head & expression. A little flat on her feet at present.
3rd Fuller & Calvesbert’s RZOWI TOP TOTTIE AT NYUKI
1st Doughty’s RUBILTRA CHIZARIRA. Strong head, good neck, super front. Good length of body and tuck up, good legs & feet. Powerful mover.
2nd Radcliff & Dunn’s GODOLPHIN CATCHTHECAT. Attractive liver nose. Balanced with good quarters & outline. In hard condition & well presented. Not quite the drive of 1st.
3rd Thompson & Taylor’s KELSHANTI PENDA ZULA
1st Thompson & Taylor’s KELSHANTI PENDA ZULA. More settled than in previous class. Nice head & expression, good outline when standing correctly. Moved well.
2nd Coates LAFTONE BLISS. Pleasing head & expression. Good angles front & rear. Needs to settle on the move.
3rd Bailey’s FAAHAC FAETHE AAN N’GAI
1st Carton’s UMHLANDLA UMAKHOLWANE. Well balanced with lovely head & expression. Super ridge.
Good front, nice length of body, muscular rear quarters. Would prefer a little more length of leg. Moved well.

2nd Reid & Meikle’s ILIZULU PRECIOUS MOONLIGHT. Very feminine bitch, excellent tuck up, good ridge. Showed & moved well.
3rd Gates’ EAGLERIDGE CHELSEA GIRL
1st Craven’s HESPA HOGUERA JW. Sound, well constructed bitch of pleasing shape & outline. Good head & expression. Sound & true movement.
2nd Cairns’ ROOINEK RANI. Very feminine. Beautiful head & expression. Lovely ridge, excellent tuck up. Would like a little more length of body. Showed well. Sound, free mover.
3rd Dunn’s GODOLPHINS ONECOOLCAT AT KHANANGA
Strongest class of the show in terms of quality. Everyone of them capable of taking the honours on a different day.
1st Hewson’s CH/INT.CH. REKAYLAHN BLAZE JW ShCH. Could not deny her. Lovely shape & outline, oozing quality. Very sound & balanced. Powerful, free movement with plenty of drive from strong, well muscled hind quarters. In excellent condition & very well handled. BIS
2nd Carlton’s UMHLANDLA UTHEKWENI JW. Quality bitch. Very feminine with lovely head & expression. Nice outline, good mover. Not the fitness of 1s. Showed well.
3rd Bates’ TIASTI TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE AT GUNTHWAITE
My compliments to these wonderful ‘oldies’ who left a lot of the younger dogs in the shade when it came down to fitness & condition.
1st Rimmer’s ROCKSHAM RIO AT KYLINI. 10yrs. A tall bitch but balanced in every way. In amazing hard condition for age. Moved soundly round the ring like a two year old.
2nd Ringer’s FLAMETREES BROWN SUGAR. 8yrs. Lovely well balanced bitch. Moved & showed well. A fraction over weight.
3rd Carlton’s FLAMETREES ZULI AT UMHLANDLA
